Sick Days

So... I am planning to call in sick tomorrow. Though I really just need the afternoon off to attend a couple of medical appointments, I am very tempted to simply take the whole day off. I probably won't though... weather is not good enough!

I have always figured that the best time to take a sick day is when you are not sick and that way you could really enjoy your sick days off when you are well. Besides... if you are really sick, go to work, laze around and get paid for it! How easy could life be? Don't worry about your co-workers; they will do their part by staying away from you when you are sick at work and thereby giving you all the quiet you need. Also, I can say with all assurance, that your boss will be very impressed with your level of dedication to the company. So there you go... a system that works for you!

Just be sure that when you do take a healthy sick day off, you stay at home. For example, don't go shopping because that is a sure way to get caught by your employer. A friend of mine once told me about someone at his work who called in sick to travel from Ontario, Canada all the way to Ohio, USA to go Christmas shopping only to run into her boss who was in Ohio on holiday. Was not a good scene I am sure!

Now if you really do need to go shopping, go to a Wal Mart or some other large department store so that if you do get seen there, you could tell them that you were in the pharmacy department buying Pepto Bismol or something. Speaking about Pept Bismol... Has anyone seen this commercial?

What's with this??? This dancing lady does not encourage me to buy that pink stuff! This, no doubt, is one of my most hated commercials. As a matter of fact, every one of these Pepto Bismol commercials, are, without a shadow of a doubt my most hated commercials!

So, what did we learn today boys and girls? The next time you are sick... Take a pill and a pillow to work and use those sick days when you are raring to go! Hmmmm.... I sure hope my employer doesn't read this blog!

This reminds me of the time I went back to work after a root canal. The same afternoon. I passed out in my chair. I was in a corner cube so I wasn't discovered for a while. Finally someone found me and told me to go home. I don't even remember driving home. I DO remember waking up the next morning and thinking, "Why the heck did I go back to work?"

I got side tracked. I visited geewits because she looked interesting. She is!

Thanks for visiting my blog all those many, many weeks ago. I've been SO SICK. I couldn't think or write. Forgive me. It's nice being here. Your photos are gorgeous and I love the words too. Please stop back any time and I'll do the same.

XO Suzanne

You don't look at all well dave - bit green around the gills I reckon - i think you're coming down with something - might need to rest tomorrow!!

In some of the really rough schools in my home town the principals would give each teacher a mental health day each term which they could use whenever. Sickies dropped by 80%

My principal used to tell us to keep a low profile even when we had a legitimate snow day, just so as not to rub it in with parents and local people we may see. Public opinion about how easy teachers have it is still so there! You feel guilty enough in the summer!

Ther is a Mazda commercial that turns my stomnach of a car salesman doing a flashdance-style dance to the song "Maniac." Yeesh. Hurts to watch.

I hate staying at home when I'm sick, nothing interest me, it's boring and yet, being at work is worse. When I'm not sick and take a mental health day, it's great! I do tons of stuff, I become a slug, I enjoy it immensely :)

I hate every single Pepto Bismol commercials, they are stupid, not very funny but this one especially grates on my nerves. I don't need that mental image when I look at the product on the shelves.

You have certainly thought this out, right down to where to and not to shop! I can't stand to go to work when I'm sick, but I'm a big baby that way. I hope you do take the whole day, and enjoy it:)

hi dave,
thats exactly what i do;-)
i go to work when i am sick, just to elevate my mood.if i take rest,i'll feel like a patient, which i dont like.being with others helps me think as little as possible about my sickness.and i use my sick leave to do my favourite things like going to beach, watching birds, travelling by trains...

Excellent advice. My sister always takes "mental health days," just to keep herself sane. She reads, she shops, she watches tv. She goes back to work happier.

ok Dave, this is your boss reading your blog, and Dave, in the words of Donald Trump, you're fired! LOL ok, just thought i'd have a little fun; it's really Heiresschild.

i'm one of the people who gets sick if you look at me too hard, so when really sick, please stay home.

i remember when we weren't feeling well growing up and my mom gave us pepto bismol. i hated it! even the name sounds dismal.

enjoy your time off!

Dave, you have a good rest then. Your story about the sick leave is funny. It is always nice to read your blog. Take care.

I seldom watch TV so I don't see many commercials.

Whenever I wanted a day off of work I just took it and made no excuses about it.

"Hey boss, I'm going fishing tomorrow."

Well, when you live in a small town and you're one of the few automatic transmission experts there isn't much they can do about it.

I was once invited to a Monday night football game in Seattle, but we had to leave early in the afternoon in order to get there. The fellow who invited me was a dentist, and he said, "Tell your boss you have a dentist's appointment". Well, our picture flashed on the jumbotron, and there I was, at a football game. Thank goodness my boss didn't see it.
