Reach Out and Touch Someone!

It ceases to amaze me how it can be so easy to “reach out and touch someone” nowadays! It also amazes me how people can actually show genuine concern for others who they simply meet over the Internet. It has been over a week since I posted here on blogspot.com and people have already sent comments of concern and this is not the first time. I also have no doubt that there are others who are concerned as it seems to me that most people I have communicated with here are a friendly and concerned group of people. I still wonder what ever happened to “freedom French fries” here on blogspot.com as many of you no doubt wonder as well… I wish her well. I suppose we just have to look out for each other.

The other day, I jumped onto another form of Internet communication called facebook (www.facebook.com) and I came across a number of my old high school and university friends… amazing! I have yet to hear back from them but I have no doubt that I will be hearing from them soon. The Internet is an amazing tool and I will continue to take advantage of it.

Another way I have used the Internet is for genealogical research. I have reached as far back as into the 16th century and have come up with ancestors throughout the world. I have made connections with people from all continents who can trace their blood lines to family members of mine. Am I connected to famous people? Who knows! I do strongly suspect, however, that my children are related to a step father of one of the signers of the American Declaration of Independence and I also believe that they are also related to the founders of a large corporation but as for me … no such luck there yet!

Like I have mentioned, I haven’t been on blogspot for a short while but I am getting back on board. I never really quit working on 120299.blogspot.com, I just needed a break as I was hitting a writer’s block as well as hitting the wall on other responsibilities that took vast amounts of my time as well.

So… hopefully I am back for good (“good” not meaning life however!) And I look forward to not only me hearing from you but also you hearing from me!

Good to see you Dave! We all have those writer's blocks. I usually keep a few pages done in advance just for such times. With this weather I am sure things will slow down anyway for who wants to be inside when you can be out in the sunshine!

The internet is a fascinating tool and I'm always finding new uses for it all the time too. What a great way to get back in touch with old friends and schoolmates. I'm sure it will be a pleasant experience renewing old times.

Welcome back. :)You'll have to fill us in on how to do geneology online without breaking the bank.

Well, we're glad you're back, Dave. We all go through "spells" of being uninspired. As you saw by my blog, I have to run for cover every once in a while... Ha!

The Internet is an amazing place, isn't it? Whatever did we do without it?

Cheers,
Josie

There is so much 'In Your Head' that when you write, you really write. It's always very readable, which says a lot.

Thanks for your comment. I tried another book tonight, and got another error message. I might just try another player. Wish you lived closer...

Welcome back!

This comment is proof of what you're talking about. I saw you were a teacher (on Josie's blog link) and thought I'd stop by. It's sort of like geneologies how the blogosphere "branches out," but unlike geneologies, it connects totally unconnected people. I told Josie I'd be posting some thoughts about how blogging is more than "writing" or "journaling" soon. Stop by some time.

Dave,
Shame on you for disappearing without warning us! I just tagged you for an award (see my post about 2 weekends ago or the comment I left on your previous post) and you do a Houdini.

Good to have you back. Looking forward to a revitalised dave. (The truth now. The weather was too good to stay indoors and blog, right?)

Welcome back Dave - you were missed! I was thinking you were taking a nice outdoor exploration blog vacation :) I've been doing a lot of it lately too. Like Janice said, things seem to slow down in the spring when people come out of hibernation. Hope your hiatus was refreshing! Its good to see you back.

Good to see you back, although I don't worry in those cases - I figure people are just taking a break. My grnadmother did tons of geneaological work through old census books and grave markers, now both my parents use the internet for it. We've got family trees going back hundreds of years on both sides. Amazing stuff.
