Well... Yet once again, today is a snow day for all our schools in the county and beyond. I swear that I have spent less time teaching this month than any other January of my teaching career. Today we woke up to a ton of rain and slush which our weather forecasters predicted would freeze by mid afternoon. Now, as a professional, I should be more concerned about the school days that my students are missing but between you and I, I am just as happy to be off school as they are. The only thing my son hates about snow days is that whenever he is off, his "old man" is off as well. Oh well Son, you can't have everything right? Right!
When I get days off like this, I often think of the song written by Todd Rundgren titled "Bang on the Drum." The part of the lyrics that reflect my thoughts on a day like this are:
"I Don't Want To Work,
I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day
I Don't Want To Play,
I Just Want To Bang On The Drum All Day"
Well, though I think I can hammer out a pretty mean beat with my hands, I certainly don't know how to really play the drums but regardless of that, whether it be banging with my hands or my head in thinking, I would much rather have a day off work doing it rather than banging off a lesson in my classroom. ("Hmmm...... What are people starting to think of me now!")
The other day, I read Gypsy's post on the hit TV show LOST and then when I was looking for the music video "Bang on the Drum," I found the song to a LOST theme video and so I had to post this one in honour of a good blogging friend. So the next time you don't want to work but instead bang on a drum all day or on anything else that you fancy, remember this song! Enjoy!

Lots of people seem to be snowed in. Great Video!
I don't wanna work either.
The season 4 premiere of Lost was excellent. I'm excited about the new episodes!
You snow bunnies are so funny. I remember snow days from growing up. We loved them.
Today it is sunny, windy and mid 80's. Just my kind of day for sure.
Stay warm and enjoy your drumming.
As I work in a school as well I get where you're coming from about an extra day off! :)
My sister teaches in peel and got today off too. Up here in Simcoe Cty,traditional snowbelt, our kids went as it wasn't too bad.
It's a mixed bag this winter! Like a box of Forrest Gump chocolates...you never know what you're going to get!!!
i have days like that also, but not today because we had temps in the 70's. love the show "Lost."
Lucky you! We love snow days, too!But we had school here in Upstate NY. Although we did have ice rain, too. but there is always hope...for a snow day... tomorrow!
Okay, now you've sent my brain into a tailspin (headspin?) because I not only did not know he wrote this song, but didn't even know he wrote songs. To me Rundgren is best known for "Hello, It's Me," which I believe was written by Carole King. Dave, you may not be at school, but you are still teaching.
Looks like another snow day today...am i right?
I love any excuse for not going in to work. Sadly, we get very few snow days down here.
(Previous comment deleted because I was in the wrong account!)
Hey Dave, thanks for the link.....I just got through watching the premiere episode of LOST and my head is just spinning with questions. Is it true that there are only 8 episodes filmed so far due to the writers strike. I hope I haven't waited for 6 months only to get 8 episodes. BAH! Watching that clip you would think they were all having the time of their lives instead of being involved in one drama after another wouldn't you?
Why don't we "non-school" workers get snow days. Why are we expected to slog through it?
No fair.
What came to my mind first was "You can't always get what you want" ... "but you git what you need..." ... ach ..
What a great video. I could easily live like that.
I don't wanna work...
Work is a four letter word, I avoid it as much as possible. Well, working for others anyway.
No snow here, 41 degrees this morning. Spring comes here early, time for me to trim the apple tree.
