rUNNING oUT oF tIME!

As you may have noticed, it appears that I haven't been around the "blogging table" over the last few days. Though it may appear this way, appearance isn't everything. I have been around... It's just that I haven't been around writing. With the way my schedule has been recently, I have only had the time to read and not write. This includes writing my posts as well as writing comments on all of your blog posts. Over the past few months, I have also been unable to respond to the many great comments that you make simply because of time constraints. I have, however, been reading all of my favourite blogs as well as other ones that I have yet to take the time and display as one of my favourites.

While I was in high school, I never took keyboarding and so, when I write, it takes me so much longer than the fluent keyboardist. I watch my kids keyboard and I grow green with envy. Someday I will take the time to teach myself... Har! Har! Har!... Boy am I funny! That will never happen! Can't teach an old dog new tricks! My dog can probably type faster than I.

Another thing that slows me down is when I have to enter those security words after every comment I submit. What's with these words anyways?? What language are they? I don't even think that they are Klingon! ZHERYEZ or ONRQFGTH ... Why can't they give us easy words to spell like CAT or DOG or BLOGGER. I swear I never get it correct on the first try... or the second try for that matter. What language are they anyways?? Sheesh! And the fonts they use... Why can't they use Keyboard fonts? C'mon Blogspot staff... gimme a break!

aNOTHER THIING THAT TAKES UP MUCH OF MY TIME IS THAT, SINCE i HAVE TO LOOK AT THE KEYBOARD TO TYPE, i FAIL TO REALIZE THAT MY caps BUTTON IS ON UNTIL i HAVE FINISHED TYPING UP A STORM... nOW that REALLY RIPS MY SHORTS! gRRRR!!!!!! There are other times when I look up only to discover that NOTHING was registering on the screen.

So there you have it... My time constraints are getting the best of me to the point that I am running out of time to submit comments, responses or even posts. I do promise, however, that I will always make it a priority to read what you write in your posts and your comments. I am getting pretty frustrated at times which only makes me think that maybe Mavis Beacon can help me after all.

Who knows... Maybe I am a lost cause after all!

Awww Dave, you poor man. I am a typist by trade so my typing skills are pretty good :) it doesn't take me very to type a response but I feel for you!

What has been recommended to me and sometimes I do it, is to do the blog in Word (or Word Perfect) then do all the editing, formatting, etc. (for example, with the caps, you can select the typing you messed up then change case). But then that doesn't work when you type a response right? LOL

As for the security words, I was advised to set it up as it stops the automatic responses. And sometimes they're looooonnnnnggg and complicated, sometimes very short. Blame whomever invented that little bit of technology :)

I know you're around, even if you don't post an answer.

Great and funny post. Let's see...I hate word verification. I don't understand why people use it. I took typing in high school and thought I forgot everything. I bought a how-to-learn typing CD, and it came back so quickly. You might want to try it. My daughter is taking keyboarding this semester. She keeps getting points taken away for having her legs crossed while typing. Go figure.

Too funny Dave and I sure understand as I'm not the fastest typer in the world either. I dislike word verification too because half the time I can't make out the difference between the u's and v's. I think they should use numbers instead. There's a photo blog I know that does that and it's a lot easier to read.

I agree about the word verification - I hate it and I hate getting slowed down for it. I took it off mine. I had one brief problem with spammers, and then after several deletions and a week with word verificiation, they went away, and I removed it again.

I had spammers invade my blog once and they left all these unintelligle comments on every single one of my posts. I installed Word Verification, reluctantly I might add, and after a week I took it off again. So far, so good.

I have noticed your absence but understand completely the time constraints. Doesn't mean I don't miss you though ;)

I took typing in high school so I don't have a problem with that. In fact it was the one subject I got A's in. :-)
I don't like the word verification either. I seem to have to do it over a couple of times too. I had it on my blog but took it off. Once in a great while I will get a spam comment but then I just delete it.
Enjoy your day.

Being a typist means it's very easy and quick for me to type up posts and comment but I can understand how not being a typist makes things slow. You may be better off typing your posts up in word, correcting any mistakes there and then copy and paste into blogger.

I hate word verification it drive me bonkers. I had to put it on for a while when I got a lot of spam but I took if off again and haven't had any spam since.

Poor Dave. I guess you'll have to find yourself a typist to dictate to.

It all seems to take me forever too, despite a behaving computer. I do my blogs in gmail and then email them to myself, copy and paste. As for the typing, I never learned the *proper* way either, but can type something like 60 wpm which is decent for no training, just LOTS of practice:) All the bloggers I have met seem to understand that the available blogging time comes and goes, and there are no hard feelings when one can't make it by for a bit.
That said, it is always nice to hear from you!

I'm a two-fingered typist myself, but think I could win a two-fingered typing contest. I have to go back after every sentence and correct stuff though. (On that first sentence I typed "tw0-fingered" and "tyoing.") However I don't have two kids and a job so I can just imagine how time consuming blogging could be for you if you type like me. But I say to you, "Take your time. We'll wait."

I will read your posts any way you decide to post them. I don't come here for the mispelled words or all caps. I come here to visit YOU!

Your good Dave,
Many a day I just visit and read also. I took typing class as an adult. I felt foolish, but I now know where the letters are some days.
I text message with the best of them. Now everyone is abbreviating that. Please don't. My brain can only learn so much new stuff with crowding out my remaining cells. And I just don't think learning pig latin for texting is important. ;-}
Time for work tonight. I volunteered to watch a friends restaurant while he is at Daytona for bike week. So I am bar tending and being keeper of the calm. So just maybe his staff will NOT call him 20 times tonight. One can only hope.

Have a fun weekend.

I so agree!!! Those security words drive me crazy for 2 reasons - first because like you I can't read the bloody things - is it an i or a j? is it a w or two vs - who knows!!! The second reason is when you have slow phone lines they don't download and you have to do the comments without them and wait until it reloads and downloads again - Aaaaahhhh!!!!!

I got rid of mine!!!!

I too have great difficulty getting around so don't worry - we all understand!!!

Dave, hope you don't mind but I tagged you in a very cool meme. Of course, only if you have time :) I know you're busy. I also wanted to let you know that I appreciate you take the time to leave comments on my blog, especially since I have word verification!

You and me both! I'm a slow typist with two fingers and I can never do those word verif.either! I hear ya on the caps key too!
I used to type in Word and copy/paste but it doesn't come out the same way at all and you have to re-space it etc....especially hard with poetry lines!

hi Dave, i've always loved to type, and my speed was 120 wpm. perhaps, i can share a little of my speed with you. lol

this lady i know who's in her 80's has just started learning the keyboard and computer. see, an old dog can learn new tricks! (not that i'm calling you or her an old dog).

blogger used to get a lot of spammers, which is why people use word verification. i really don't think spamming is too much of a problem now since they changed over to the new blogger.

I hate those word verification things to, especially the ones where they're hard to read.

Nice post :-)

For my story and article writing, I use speech transcription. It works well as a first through draft and then I go back and correct the errors on the keyboard.

It's quicker than lots of typing and makes it easier to make a start each day because it's less initial hard work.

Word verification drives me nuts too but, once the spammers realize a site is unprotected, unfortunately, they'll home in like heat seeking missiles.
